About Molly Rohrer
I began my journey into creating vitreous enamel jewelry, eleven years ago. I took an enameling class in a small bead shop in Florida. I fell in love with the bold colors of glass that brought my whimsical ideas to life.
My ideas begin in my sketchbook and are then transferred to the metal. I hand saw each piece and then soft the powdered glass onto the piece. It is then fired by torch or kiln to 1400* where the glass melts and fuses to the metal. That process is repeated a minimum of six times, but most times many, many more .
My inspiration for my work comes from things that make me happy. Color, my pets, all things nature, and even food!
I make things that put a smile on my face and hope to make others smile too.
I work in my home studio creating vitreous enamel jewelry. My studio is home to various metals, saws, powdered glasses, torches, a kiln, too many tools to count and my sketchbook filled with ideas.
Vitreous enameling is the process of fusing glass to metal to create a colorful piece of Art
Each piece is sketched and then sawed out of either copper or silver. Layers of glass are fired with a torch or a kiln to 1400* melting the glass onto the metal. This process is repeated several times. Details are added with fine silver wire, larger pieces of glass, or by wet packing into place.
