About Ellen DiFazio

Upon retiring from my position on Long Island, New York where I  continually found inspiration in the ever-changing landscapes that surrounded me, I found an equally amazing  environment on Hilton head island.  Nature, with its timeless beauty, became my muse, and the sea, marsh, and ocean, my canvases of   expression.

My artistic journey has always been  a dance between reality and abstraction. I employ beautiful colored landscapes that mirror the vibrant hues of my beloved surroundings. Through a semi-abstract lens, I seek to convey the essence of nature’s allure, capturing its spirit rather than replicating its form.

Texture and color is the language I use to communicate with my audience. With a variety of tools and materials such as pencil, charcoal and different mediums I am able to alter and scratch into  the surface of my canvases, creating a tactile experience that invites viewers to feel the movement of the ocean breeze, the subtle undulations of the marsh and the bounty and joy of the garden. Each stroke is a deliberate exploration, a fusion of technique and intuition.

Working primarily on large canvases, I embrace the expansive freedom they offer. The scale allows me to immerse myself fully  in the creative process, translating the vastness of nature onto a tangible space. It’s a journey of exploration and discovery that unfolds on the grand stage of a blank canvas. My smaller, more intimate statements on canvas create vignettes and moments of contemplation, meditation  and appreciation.

Having exhibited in numerous galleries in both New York and Hilton Head Island, my work has been a bridge connecting diverse audiences with the beauty I find in the world around me. Participation in juried exhibitions and the honor of a solo exhibit at Palmetto Bluff, Bluffton, SC, have enriched my artistic narrative.

As a featured artist for the month of March at Art League Gallery, inside the Art Center of Coastal Carolina, I had the opportunity to  celebrate the fusion of art and community. My studio space on Hilton Head Island, shared with the talented individuals at Full Spectrum Studio, serves as a sanctuary for creativity and collaboration.

Beyond the studio, I am an active member of local associations contributing to the artistic tapestry of Hilton Head. Volunteering with the Turtle Trackers embodies my commitment to the preservation of our natural wonders, reflecting the symbiotic relationship between art and the environment.

In this chapter of my life, my art is not just a reflection of the world; it is a celebration of a lifelong love affair with nature, a testament to the beauty found in the sea, the marsh, the garden  and the ocean. Through my creations, I invite others to join me on this visual journey, to pause and appreciate the timeless magic that surrounds us.
